What Size Is This Boot?

No size stamp, or a stamp you can't read? Measure the sole and we'll give you the likely size and width, in men's and women's.

How to measure

1. Sole length: stand the boot with its heel flat against a wall and measure from the wall to the tip of the toe.
2. Sole width: measure across the widest part of the outsole, at the ball of the foot.
3. Toe shape: pointed and snip toes run longer than round toes for the same size, so pick the closest shape.

Estimates come from standard boot sizing and improve as people tell us the stamped size. Makers and eras vary, so trying boots on is the only sure test.
