Bootmaker
C. C. McGuffin
C.C. McGuffin was a New Mexico bootmaker and bottomer who, according to his granddaughter Deana McGuffin, opened a shop in Carrizozo in 1917 (a different account instead dates his start to Roswell in 1915). As a bottomer he bought premade tops and finished the lasting, soling, and heel work himself. The family later moved to Roswell, where his son L.W. McGuffin grew up and carried on the trade.

Biography
History
C. C. McGuffin was a New Mexico bootmaker and bottomer — a craftsman who takes premade tops from a top maker and finishes the sole and heel. By Deana McGuffin's account of her grandfather, he opened a boot shop in Carrizozo, New Mexico, in 1917, buying premade tops from shops including Blutcher and Olsen-Stelzer and then lasting and finishing the bottoms himself. The family later moved to Roswell, where his son L. W. McGuffin grew up.
A separate 2019 profile tells the story differently, saying McGuffin left Texas and opened his shop in Roswell in 1915. Sources differ on both the year and the city: 1917 in Carrizozo, or 1915 in Roswell. Neither account gives a birth or death year.
