Biography

History

Charlotte Marshall is a bootmaker at Texas Traditions in Austin, where she apprenticed under Lee Miller. A November 2016 Dallas Morning News profile described her as a 27-year-old newcomer from Pennsylvania who had moved to Austin to be with her boyfriend; she knew sewing and handicrafts but nothing about bootmaking when she talked Miller into taking her on. Within a year she could work a pair independently.

In her own 2019 interview she said she quit a job in Philadelphia, answered a vague help-wanted ad, went through about a month of working interviews, and was hired part-time for a 30-day trial. She named Lee and Carrlyn Miller as her teachers and said she now works full time at the shop. A 2022 profile of Miller describes apprentice Charlotte as the one who starts the cutting and sewing and mainly works tops. Sources differ on her age: 27 in the 2016 newspaper profile, 28 in the 2022 one.
