Biography
History
Duck Menzies founded Duck’s Heritage Cowboy Boots in Belton, Texas, and taught Dustin Lauw for more than a decade. Texas Senate Resolution No. 906, adopted 26 May 2017, calls him “an accomplished artisan,” says he agreed to mentor Lauw, and that before his death in 2014 he left the business to his student.
Lost Penguin Leather Goods (22 February 2019) says Duck passed away five years before that interview and that Lauw inherited both the shop and its customer base. In his own 2019 interview, Lauw said Duck was his only bootmaking teacher, and that while Duck was alive he would not let anyone else touch the sole stitcher. No birth date or exact month of death survives.
