Biography

History

Paul Krause is a custom bootmaker in Prescott, Arizona. In a 25 April 2019 interview, he says that after his 1971 discharge from the U.S. Air Force he worked in a shoe-repair shop on California's Central Coast, and in 1979 went to work for Western Boot Service in Auburn, California, repairing boots for factories during the Urban Cowboy boom.

He credits a semi-retired Utah shoemaker, Joe Henderson, with helping him build his first pair using a book by Joe and Jeri Wise. After about ten years in shoe repair, he made two more pairs in his own shop in the early 1990s, working from a book by D. W. Frommer, then moved to Prescott and kept that book on his bench for five years. In 2006 he spent three weeks studying directly with Frommer, learning what Krause calls the two-piece boot, also known as the full Wellington.
