Why collectors care

Beck is the live Encyclopedia’s Panhandle handmade node. Collectors need corrected dates, succession credits, the 40-penny nail tell, and a working-vs-fashion distinction — not another generic “family shop since the Depression” card.

Company About and Amarillo press date the twins’ shop purchase to 1916 Dalhart, then the move to Amarillo in 1921.

Origin spine

McLaughlin thread

Tye E. Barrett’s Baylor M.A. thesis (2010) dates Merton McLaughlin making boots in the Panhandle from spring 1882, and has the twins purchasing McLaughlin’s shop in 1921. Company narrative emphasizes 1916 Dalhart then 1921 Amarillo. McLaughlin is adjacent Panhandle history, not a Beck founder biography.
