Botas Jaca · History
History
Botas Jaca is a family-run boot factory in León, Guanajuato, Mexico. By the company's own account, the project began in 1942 when Don Delfino Muñoz and Doña Petra Rodríguez started a cowboy-boot workshop at home — he supplying the bootmaking skill, she the business discipline. The family workshop consolidated in 1950, and the Botas Jaca name became official in 1970. The first models were vaquero styles, and the company says every pair is still made in León.
A León newspaper's record of the 1995 San Crispín de Oro award names the couple as Delfino Muñoz and Petra Rodríguez, boot manufacturers, and says she was the only woman to receive the award up to that point. A rival company, Rio Grande Boots, tells its own history around the same couple — using the fuller name Delfino Muñoz Becerra and dating his birth to 1902 in León — and claims that the same 1942 home workshop became Rio Grande rather than Jaca. Both companies also tie the 1995 San Crispín de Oro award to the same couple. Sources do not resolve which company's claim on the 1942 workshop is correct, and the two firms are treated here as separate businesses.
