Why collectors care

Champion Boot Co. is the El Paso mail-order and buckaroo name used on 1960s and 1970s advertisements. Collectors need it kept separate from Caboots, from Dingo Champion, and from Nocona CHAMPION.

This page is a manufacturing company card. Jose Luis Sanchez’s later custom trading name is Jose Sanchez Boots.

Company history

Jose Luis Sanchez’s own site states that he grew up in his father’s El Paso shoe-repair and bootmaking shop, later developed a boot mail-order business named Champion Boot Company, and with his wife Norma specialized in buckaroo boots for working cowboys. The living custom name on that site is Jose Sanchez Boots, with an office at 503 S. Cotton Street. He also records production-manager work for Justin and Acme–Dan Post, plus contract work for Tony Lama, Bowman Wilson, Cowtown, and Mustang.

Period advertisements printed Champion Boot Co. / Champion Western Wear at Fox Plaza Center. A 1963 plate names Style 1000 and Style 2000. A 1964 plate names Desert Sun, Spider Web, and Double Eagle. A 1978 mail-order plate adds Plainsman (3100 / 3101 / 3102) and Patent Leather PL 700.

Texas House H.R. 1427 places Jose Luis in the Sanchez family that later became Caboots. Do not read a Fox Plaza pair as a 407 E. Nevada Caboots custom.
