History
Culmen was one of the mechanized footwear factories of Valverde del Camino, in Spain’s Huelva province. Local historian Juan Carlos Sánchez Corralejo writes that Manuel Romero Pérez, who ran the family firm of Hijo de Diego Romero Bernal, moved from a small workshop on calle Peñuelas to Culmen, which was installed in Triana from 1940 in the building of José Pérez Romero’s earlier factory.
José Parreño Lineros worked as Culmen’s encargado before leaving to set up on his own. In the 1940s, in a new workshop on calle Italia, he created the boto rociero by lengthening the shaft of the borceguí to cover the calf. Sánchez Corralejo writes that Parreño himself made many of the boto orders that arrived at both Inval and Culmen.
