• Orthopedic lasts. The 1996 profile states that each last begins as a plain wooden foot shape. Gallegos or colleague Isidro Robeldo then added finely shaved leather to match bunions, flat feet, or high arches. His father was known as an “orthopedic man.”
• Throughput. After measuring, a pair took about a week. Gallegos told the Journal Record, “We’re not producing 300 boots a day.”
• Fit policy. The shop tried three times and bought the boots back if the customer remained unsatisfied.
• Named lasts in 1996. The profile lists lasts marked for Marsha Mason, Kevin Costner, Kevin Kline, and Danny Glover, and a stingray pair for musician Robby Romero. A celebrity name on a last does not authenticate an unlabeled pair on the secondary market.
• No named catalog models. Work was fully custom. Exotic skins such as stingray appear in the 1996 profile. Prefer pair documentation over invented model names.
