Why collectors care
Heritage Boot Company is an Austin design and retail shop whose cowboy boots are handmade in small batches in León, Mexico. Collectors meet the name on South Congress and need to keep it separate from Texas Traditions, the Dunn and Miller custom bench a few blocks away.
Taxonomy here is Bootmaker: a small-batch handmade workshop with Austin headquarters, not a scale factory card. Unrelated “Heritage” labels on other pairs are a different problem.
Shop history
Jerry and Patti Ryan founded Heritage Boot Co. in Austin in 2005. Forbes (21 June 2011) describes Jerry Ryan’s Dublin and London clothing background, including Sulka and Turnbull & Asser. Company About dates the South Congress store to 1714A South Congress after a few earlier Austin locations.
The boots homage 1930s–1960s “Golden Age” cowboy-boot design. Company About says a third-generation León bootmaker works with his daughters in a small shop among larger factories. The family’s grandfather began as a custom bootmaker. The workshop is not named in the public About copy.
During the COVID-19 pandemic the original owners passed the shop to employee ownership. Company About and Texas House H.R. 1442 (2025) credit Alie Twigger, musician Steven Twigger, and Kimber Breaux as the successors. Alie had already worked in design and marketing at the store.
