Jack Reed · History

History

Jack Reed ran a one-man bootmaking shop in Burnet, Texas. Tyler Beard's The Cowboy Boot Book described the shop and Reed's promise to teach the 372 steps of bootmaking in a single forty-hour week.

Reed taught several bootmakers who built their own careers, including Stephanie Ferguson, who learned from him after reading Beard's book and later refined her craft with Bo Riddle in Nashville, and Michael Anthony Carnacchi (profiled as Michael Anthony), whom Reed taught fit, pattern making, and boot building. Reed also ran the Boot and Saddlemaker Round Up during the years it was held in Brownwood.

No street address, birth year, or death year for Reed has been documented here; longer biographical claims found elsewhere, including a reported 2004 death, are not confirmed by these sources.
