Construction / ID tells
- Custom measuring → resin lasts: SAR describes white resin lasts matched to customer measurements; leather shaped to last; about a 10-step handmade process in a four-room workshop next to the showroom.
- Repair policy as provenance soft tell: Shop repairs only boots they made (“Let the bootmakers repair the boots they create”) — useful when service tickets / owner history exist.
- ~90% custom language in the InfuseSA interview — operational color, not a stamp.
- Materials: Exotic and domestic leathers (ostrich, crocodile, elephant examples in SAR portraits) — skin alone is not a maker tell.
- Interior personalization: Initials inside the ankle on some men’s customs (observed on Duane’s pair in SAR) — soft, customer-option tell.
- Geography: Southside San Antonio custom vs El Paso / Valley / Austin houses. Adjacency to Lucchese’s founding city is cultural context, not corporate kinship.
- Marks: Photograph brand stamp, size/width, any order tickets, Division Ave association in paperwork.
- Not a tell: “San Antonio custom” alone (multiple shops historically).
Documentation limits
- Exact downtown street addresses before the 1950s Division Ave move — thin in open English press.
- Stamp / hallmark atlas still thin publicly — prioritize photographed interiors.
- Relative authorship among Sharon / Duane / Royal / named craftsmen (e.g. Juan Dominguez cutting inlays in SAR) on any given pair.
Maker-specific markings guidance has not been documented yet. Preserve the complete stamp and compare it against dated sources.
