Why collectors care

Panhandle Slim is a living Fort Worth western-wear name whose boot line is historic. Collectors meet tall-shaft and exotic pairs labeled Panhandle Slim, often “by Sanders,” and need to keep those vintage boots separate from today’s shirt and outerwear brand.

Company history

Company About dates Panhandle Slim to 1946 as Westmoor’s original western-wear brand and credits the house with the pearl-snap shirt. USPTO mark PANHANDLE SLIM (serial 73703945), owned by Westmoor Mfg. Co., claims first use 6 January 1950. The 1988 filing’s goods originally included boots, belts, outer shirts, and jackets. Later status displays strike through boots and belts while shirts remain, which matches a boot line that left the living mix.

Today’s About page emphasizes shirts and outerwear for men and women, including collaborations such as Brooks & Dunn and Tuff Hedeman. It is not a current boot-factory story.

Vintage boots labeled Panhandle Slim commonly appear Mexico-made on the secondary market, often with a Sanders mark. Westmoor later appears as owner of the Sanders boot trademark. Production of those boots is generally placed by collectors in the 1980s–1990s. An exact factory close date is not published in the sources used here.
