Lasts culture: Custom lasts kept in Nogales for reorder — the shop still points to John Wayne and Gene Autry lasts. Published sizes vary (Arizona Highways: Wayne 11E; True West caption: Wayne last 10 EE; Autry 9E).
Bottoming: True West: stacked leather heels and lemonwood pegs in the arch — a classic high-end handmade tell when present.
Shaft work: Multi-row / multicolor stitching as structural ornament. Butterfly and fancy tops appear on documented entertainer pairs.
Marks: Paul Bond labels / tickets and shop provenance photos.
Film craft credit: The company legacy page describes six pairs for Paul Newman in John Huston’s The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972) with progressively shorter heels (about 3″ → 1″) to age the character on screen.
