Rafael Moran ran Moran's Leather in Weslaco, Texas, and was profiled in Joe Nick Patoski's June 2002 Texas Monthly list of Texas bootmakers. He was a native of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, had by then spent 35 years in the bootmaking business, and oversaw a five-man shop.
His specialty was exotic leathers such as alligator and ostrich, with pairs starting around $150 and taking about a month. Singers Johnny Canales and Los Cadetes de Linares were named among his clients.
