Bootmaker
Vicente Cavazos
Vicente Cavazos built boots himself from fit to finish under the shop name Cavazos Boot Factory in Mercedes, Texas. A 2002 magazine profile highlights his artistic stitching, inlays, and overlays, including tops shaped like roses, a Corpus Christi cityscape, and ostrich wingtips, with prices starting at $225.
History
Vicente Cavazos ran the Cavazos Boot Factory at 302 Second Street in Mercedes, Texas, profiled in Joe Nick Patoski's June 2002 Texas Monthly roundup. The profile says he built an entire boot himself, from fit to finish, excelling at artistic stitching, inlays, and overlays. Tops he built included designs such as roses and a Corpus Christi cityscape, along with ostrich wing tips; his boots started at $225 and took four to five weeks.
Despite the shop's name, the profile describes one craftsman doing the whole boot rather than a volume factory. He is a different bootmaker from Henry Camargo, the other Mercedes shop profiled in the same article.
