Bootmaker
Weldon Ray
Weldon Ray ran Ray’s Boots and Saddle Repair in Marfa, Texas — “Giant country” — where he had been making rugged boots for about ten years as of 2002, serving local ranchers and artists.
History
Weldon Ray ran Ray's Boots and Saddle Repair in Marfa, Texas — in what the shop's own description called “Giant country,” after the film shot nearby — and was profiled in Joe Nick Patoski's June 2002 Texas Monthly list of Texas bootmakers. He had by then spent ten years making boots there.
His specialty was rugged boots, with pairs starting around $350 and taking two to three months, made mainly for local ranchers and artists. He is not related to bootmakers Ray Jones of Lampasas or Blake Jones of Harper, despite the similar names.
