Willie Lusk Jr.

1946–1976 (shop to 1991) · Lubbock, Texas

Most factory boots announce themselves with a molded logo. Lusk pairs often do not. Recognition depends on construction grammar: how the top is stitched, how the toe is boxed, how the sole is fastened. National press treated him as a peer of the best custom makers of his generation — Coronet (July 1951), Sports Illustrated (23 June 1969), Ebony, and the Wall Street Journal covered the shop. Lusk’s Boot Shop opened 1946 on Avenue A in Lubbock; he died 1976; the shop continued under later ownership into 1991 (TSHA).
