Biography

History

Frank Urban was a Czech immigrant bootmaker in San Angelo, Texas, who taught Willie Lusk Jr. to make boots entirely by hand. According to the Handbook of Texas, a year after Lusk began polishing shoes around age twelve, he started at N. A. Brown's Boot Shop in San Angelo, where, in the words of that entry, “From Frank Urban, a Czech immigrant at Brown's, Lusk learned the craft of creating boots by hand.”

Urban is distinct from N. A. Brown, who sold the San Angelo business in 1934, and from Brown's Boot and Saddle Shop, the later Lubbock shop of E. E. Brown where Lusk went on to become foreman.
