Industria Valverdeña, S.A. · History

History

Industria Valverdeña, S.A. was a boot factory in Valverde del Camino, Spain, credited with the botos Legión — boots built on a fine pointed last with a Cuban heel. One account traces it to a firm called Romero Becerro y Cía, founded in 1918, which reorganized into Industria (or, in another source, “Industrial”) Valverdeña, S.A. in 1923 or 1924, depending on the source; it closed in 1960.

In the 1930s it was the town's principal mechanized footwear factory, known for that mechanization and for the botos Legión, employing about 225 people around 1933. Capital increases are recorded at 200,000 pesetas at the end of 1923 and an absolute capital of 1,440,000 pesetas by 1940.

José Parreño Lineros, a banquilla (bench) maker, is credited with supplying boto orders to Industria Valverdeña as well as to another firm, Culmen. J.D.L. Arroyo y Cía, a separate Valverde del Camino factory dating to 1912, is a different company.
