Ben Miller closed the Olathe plant in 1978; in 2001 Western Leather Goods (Rios of Mercedes / Anderson Bean) acquired Olathe Boot Company assets and consolidated production in Mercedes. Modern Olathe pairs should be read as Mercedes handmade construction in the Rios-family ecosystem, not as Kansas factory Hyers.

Public brand materials position Olathe as a respected American handmade line — typically fewer options / faster relative to top-tier Rios of Mercedes, still far above mass imports. Confirm on the pair:
- All-leather bottoming vocabulary vs synthetic shortcuts.
- Welt type (Rios-family trade writing often emphasizes channel welt / resolability — confirm per pair).
- Hide grades (cowhide, goat, lizard, ostrich, and related skins appear in retail / brand leather education pages).
- Last/toe families consistent with contemporary western retail — not a promise of identical 1930s Hyer catalog silhouettes.
- Do not assume modern Olathe copies a specific historic Hyer last; the heritage claim is lineage and place-name, not identical patterns.
