Tecovas · History
Why collectors care
Tecovas is the shelf brand that walked a new cohort into Western boots. Secondary-market and gift-pair questions are constant: Is it “handmade”? Where? Which construction? How does it sit beside Lucchese / Cuadra / custom Texas? The Encyclopedia answer is craft geography + construction inspection — not hype.

Origin and people credits
- Paul Hedrick — Texas native; Harvard; consulting/PE path (Greenwich / NYC boot-wearing origin story in Fast Company, CNN, Texas Monthly Mar 2019 “Bootstrapper” profile). Drew early designs; flew patterns to León; launched from an Austin apartment fall 2015.
- Name: Tecovas geological formation / Tecovas Creek (Palo Duro area) — paleontology-dream etymology in company lore.
- Design remains Austin-based; make remains León multi-generation leather district (Esquire; Field & Stream interview; brand “How to Make” / Our Story).
- Growth: farmers-market / trunk-sale early hustle → DTC site → South Congress flagship and a growing US store count (brand/Wikipedia counts move — check the current store locator).
- 2024+: Stagecoach official boot sponsor; PBR team sponsorships; first wholesale to independent Western retailers; 2025 Chili’s collab novelty SKU; 2026 Bass Pro partnership announcements.
