History

Texas Boot Company was a boot manufacturer based in Lebanon, Tennessee. Wikipedia’s Acme Boots entry says that in 2000, Arena Brands of Dallas licensed the Acme name to Texas Boot Company, and that in 2002 Texas Boot put the Acme Boot name up for sale; H.H. Brown, a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary, bought it and placed it under the Double-H Boots label.

A 2005 SEC filing from McRae Industries records that the company bought certain assets from Texas Boot, Inc. — then in Chapter 11 bankruptcy — including the trademarks Laredo, J. Chisolm, Code West, and Performair, along with accounts receivable and inventory; the sale closed 28 June 2005, with the assets going to Dan Post Boot Company. A West Virginia business registration for Texas Boot, Inc., filed 29 July 1998, lists the company’s principal office in Lebanon, Tennessee. No founding year survives. This firm is not the same as the “BY TEXAS” credit found on some Sheplers catalog listings, nor is it Acme itself.
