Fenoglio Boot Company · History
Why collectors care
Fenoglio Boot Company is a Nocona manufacturing house in the brick building where Enid Justin started Nocona in 1925. Collectors need the 2014 purchase year and must not treat every Nocona, Texas pair as Fenoglio.
Taxonomy here is manufacturing company. Family residency in Nocona since 1886 is town heritage on the company About page, not the factory founding date.
Company history
Illume (18 February 2018) records that seasoned Nocona makers launched Montague Boot Company in 2001 in Enid Justin’s early brick building after the Nocona Boot Co. plant closed about 1999.
The Bowie News (8 August 2014) reports that the James Fenoglio family bought Montague from Bill and Jim Williams of Dallas on 1 April 2014 and renamed it Fenoglio Boot Company. James Fenoglio had been production manager. The same article printed 48 employees and the address 1606 W. Pine Street. Other directories later print Clay Street. Caption the dated source.
Illume quotes Caiden Fenoglio on a Cavender’s private-label program and on a claim that Fenoglio was then the largest independently owned U.S. western boot manufacturer, one hundred percent Nocona. That is a company claim.
Do not collapse H.J. Justin 1879, Enid Justin 1925, or the later Justin purchase of Nocona into a Fenoglio founding date.
